NEPTUN WERFT: A year of overlapping crises has been mastered

Rostock-Warnemünde, 27.12.2022 –

The year 2022 initially started promisingly for the MEYER Group with the order for the construction of the new research vessel Meteor IV. No one suspected at the time that just a few weeks later, in addition to the pandemic with the war in Ukraine and the numerous consequences that followed, there would be further drastic effects on the industry and NEPTUN WERFT.

"This was followed by the energy crisis and previously unknown challenges in supply chains and material availability, which posed problems for many industries and companies, including us," says Operations Manager Lars-Gunar Klasen. Nevertheless, NEPTUN WERFT, with its approximately 500 direct employees, was able to deliver a floating engine room module for the Carnival Jubilee to Papenburg in the summer of 2022.

With two further engine room modules for cruise ships of Disney Cruise Line and the construction of blocks for a ship of Silversea Cruises, the shipyard in Warnemünde has another three projects under construction for its Papenburg sister company.

Another highlight this year was an anniversary: NEPTUN WERFT, rich in tradition, has been part of the MEYER Group for 25 years now. A milestone in the history of the shipyard, which stands for long-term perspectives and tradition.

Outlook for the year 2023

Next year, the shipyard in Warnemünde will start building an LNG engine room module for a cruise ship under construction at MEYER TURKU in Finland. At the same time, further important steps will be taken to bring the joint order with Lürssen for the construction of two naval fuel supply vessels into successful implementation.

In addition, the management has taken an important measure this year which has an impact on the entire MEYER Group and thus also on NEPTUN WERFT. Thus, the order book was stretched once again in order to be able to hand over fully completed ships to the customers on a reliable date despite material bottlenecks and difficulties in the supply chains.

In addition, the product portfolio of the MEYER Group was significantly diversified. With MEYER RE, MEYER Floating Solutions, MEYER Y A C H T S and MEYER WISMAR, the Group is now positioning itself much more broadly - and is also focusing on products outside the cruise industry.

At the same time, NEPTUN is working intensively on internal transformation and improvement projects in order to emerge from this crisis stronger in the medium and long term.
