Viking has taken delivery of a new river cruise ship, Viking Honir, from NEPTUN WERFT. The river cruise ship is part of the well-known Longship series of sister ships.
The technical handover took place on 9 October 2025 in Arnhem (Netherlands). The official delivery took place on 14 October 2025 in Basel (Switzerland). Last week, the technical handover to the shipping company took place in the presence of CEO Stephan Schmees and project manager Andre Rose.
“After a successful sea trial run on September 23, we are proud to have now handed over this project to our customer,” stated the Project Manager Andre Rose. "With the successful handover, we have reached an important milestone together. I am delighted and proud that we have travelled this path together as a team and achieved our goal by joining forces," says CEO Stephan Schmees.
As with all NEPTUN river cruise ships for Viking, the new ship series is equipped with a hybrid system consisting of a diesel-electric drive and a battery system. This absorbs peak loads and significantly reduces fuel consumption. The ships also feature a number of technical innovations, such as a compact wastewater treatment system.
